Guy Roc is passionate about shells. For about thirty years, he has been devoted to conchyliology, the study of shelled mollusks. He knows them well and collects them.
He’s displaying several hundred of them this weekend at City Hall. As he’s moved from exhibition to exhibition in the Paris region, he’s really gotten into it. And he’s happy to share his knowledge about these creatures.
“In my collection, there is the tiny Cypraea shell that was used as currency in primitive societies in China, and giants like the Tridacna, or giant clam, which measures 45 cm wide by 30 cm high,“he explains. This exhibition, the only one of its kind in Mayenne, features beautiful specimens from around the world, some of which are very rare. Through Sunday, July 19, 2015, Exhibition from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the outbuildings of the Château de Bourgon in Montourtier.
Every day, Guy Roc gives a talk about these shells, which have existed for millions of years. Admission is free. Donations—which are voluntary—will benefit the fight against West syndrome.
