The Chapel – 1525 The castle chapel was built in 1525 by the Montecler family on the foundations of an old medieval tower. On the facade’s plasterwork, one can still see the funerary inscription, and above the entrance, the superb granite tympanum carved with intertwined fleurs-de-lis surmounted by the royal crown. The restoration of the 16th-century door was carried out by the firm “Grudé.” The main window is framed by tracery that highlights the superb stained-glass windows. Next, one discovers the ceiling, shaped like an inverted ship’s hull, and the formerly painted keystone. At the ridge, ancient medallions remain, whose letters spell out the name “Montecler.” Another medallion depicts a hunting horn, illustrating the importance given to the Mass of Saint Hubert, celebrated during hound hunts. A lovely 16th-century credence table, designed to hold the cruets, is fitted with a small drain. The simple original granite altar, along with the chapel’s renovation, has restored its function not only as a place of worship but also as a cultural space today.
